If you want to give your dog an easy access from his house to your house you should consider using Dog Stairs or a pet ramp. Dog stairs or a pet ramp can let them access to higher place easily. Your pet doesn’t need a jump to reach the area!

But there are few questions you have to consider when choosing your Dog Stairs.

Dog Stairs or Dog Ramp

A lot of things you must consider when trying to give your dog access to the places you want. First of all, you must consider whether you would choose Dog Stairs or dog ramps.

Stairs are a good choice for dog, because this pet very familiar with our human steps. Even so, please be sure your dog is agile enough to use the stairs easily. Dog Stairs are not an ideal tool for old dogs. If you have an older one, maybe you should consider for using dog ramps.

Ideal Dog Stairs

Height – When shopping for your Dog Stairs, pay more attention to the height of stairs from step to step. Common height for human stairs it’s 6 to 7 inch. The steps of Dog Stairs shouldn’t be higher than this.

Depth – This is another important thing when you buy Dog Stairs. Don’t forget dog has 4 legs, may take some difficulties with less depth stair. An ideal depth for dog stairs would be 10 to 12 inch.

Dog Stairs have their advantage over a dog ramps. Stairs take up less ground space to reach the same place. The Dog Stairs can give your pet safety, compact and convenient entree to wherever you want.

Materials – When you planning to place your Dog Stairs at outside, consider stairs made from tougher materials than you would for indoor. Using outdoor stair is a fantastic idea, let your pet access to a dog door and then into your house.

If you planning Dog Stairs for an old dog, please consider not only their agility at present but their health and agility problems in the future.

Before you start, consider the following:

How big and how heavy is your dog?

How often will you need to move the ramp?

How wide do you want your ramp to be?

Is there a chance that humans will use the ramp too?

How many ramps will you need?

For a dog or humans over 100 lbs, you may need 3/8 or 1/2 inch plywood; otherwise you can use 1/4 inch plywood.
If the ramp is to be moved frequently, you will most likely want as light a ramp as possible. The recommended width is between 16 and 24 inches.

MATERIALS NEEDED

Plywood (for length see Instructions below)

Indoor-outdoor carpeting to cover one side of the plywood

4 strips of wooden lathe, each piece as long as the ramp’s width

Wood or drywall screws

INSTRUCTIONS

Measure the distance from the top of the stairs to the bottom

Add 4 inches

This will determine the length of the plywood and carpeting

Cut the plywood

Staple or glue the carpeting to the top side of the plywood

Starting from the bottom, screw the lathe crosswise over the carpeting at regular intervals, for example every 10 or 12 inches

Place the ramp over the steps and let your dog try it

If the ramp is too steep, add another two feet of plywood and try again (screw a piece of board underneath the two sections to join them)

Once your dog can use the ramp, move it to where you want it, then anchor the top end to the stairs with screws or nails

Make sure nothing pokes out to hurt your dog’s paws

If your steps are made of cement, use concrete anchors or concrete nails for fastening

Congratulations, that’s all there is to building a Dog Ramp out of plywood!

The weather can sometimes be nasty. Today it’s sunny, but before long, rain will start to pour once again. That’s why it’s very essential that before you walk out your door, your dog is ready to get wild – but not wet.

Why You Need to Keep Your Dog Dry

Dogs are warm blooded, which means that they can easily adapt to the temperature of their environment. When the weather gets too hot, they simply have to pant to release the extra heat. When the weather gets too cold, they have their fur to provide them insulation.

However, if they are exposed for a long time to cold weather, such as when you’re on a walk or on a trip, their body temperature eventually drops. It can worsen when the dog is very wet. When this happens, hypothermia may occur, where blood sugar goes down, and he starts to chill.

What to Wear on a Rainy Day

Fortunately, there is a variety of fashionable and totally hip rain gear that your Dog Can Wear out.

Vinyl Rain Jackets. The nice thing about vinyl is that it allows water to slide right off. It doesn’t allow moisture inside the rain jacket, which, in turn, will keep your dog warm at all times. They may also come with a drawstring hood, so you can also protect the head and the neck. Some varieties also have an opening to allow the dog leash to pass through. To easily adjust the rain jacket, Velcro straps are often supplied. There are several colors and designs for vinyl rain jackets that are available, so you can always choose one that you think will fit your dog’s personality.

Rain Coats. Rain coats are one of the most practical options for rainy day dog clothes. They’re not just comfortable, but they also protect your dog and save you the hassle of drying your pooch after the walk. Moreover, a lot of them are equipped with a reflective strip in order to alert drivers of their presence. Furthermore, it allows you to find your dog easily if it strays and the surroundings are already dark.

Trench Coats. Trench coats are really classy and truly add elegance and sophistication to your pooch. It’s the most perfect rainy day apparel if ever you need to attend parties, and you want to keep his tux or polo shirt dry underneath. For the female dogs, vintage trench coats are the in thing. They come in various flattering colors.

There are also other noteworthy additions to this apparel. For example, side pockets can be used to store keys and other essential items that would be needed during your walk. A visor can also add more protection to your dog’s head. Little paw booties will keep his paws dry at all times.

Taking care of your pooch can be a very expensive proposition. Trips to the vet and the grooming shop can quickly take a bite out of your bank account. And there’s no end to treats and bling that you can buy for your beloved pooch. Thankfully, basic dog grooming is something that anyone can learn to do at home with the right supplies.

To optimize your dog’s health and happiness you must have the proper supplies, along with the proper instruction on how to use the various tools. The essential Grooming Supplies for any Pet owner are simple: Clippers, brushes, scissors, pet shampoo, a hair dryer, and nail clippers.

Clippers

Clippers are an essential component in your grooming kit. A good clipper will make short work of keeping your pet’s coat neat and tidy. When cutting a pet’s hair you must use clippers designed for use on animals. Because of differences in the hair, human hair clippers are not a good substitute. Specialized hair clippers for pets can range from $50 to $100, but are necessary if you are going to cut pet hair. The leading brand of clippers is Andis. Scissors are used for cutting excess hair in hard to reach or sensitive areas.

Dog Brushes

Brushes, as with clippers, are specialized for animals and should not be replaced by human brushes. Dog brushes are rather simple tools, used to shape or style your pooch’s hair. You’ll want to choose a brush that is best for your pet’s coat. The choices include:

Bristle brushes for most hair types and vary from soft to firm bristles.

Wire pin brushes for breeds with medium to long hair lengths.

Slicker brushes are perfect for medium or long-haired breeds with tangles or mats.

Rakes are brushes used for bad tangles and mats that can’t be removed by the slicker brush.

Shedding brushes are tools that have specialized teeth to remove excess hair and undercoat.

Flea combs are simple combs that help make fleas more visible and pull them from your pet’s undercoat.

Shampoo

There are almost as many dog shampoos as there are human shampoos! Keep these guidelines in mind when picking a shampoo for your pet.

Tear free shampoos are useful when trying to protect your pooch’s eyes from harmful chemicals in normal shampoos.

Oatmeal shampoos soothe irritated skin.

Natural shampoos are a chemical-free alternative.

Medicated shampoos are prescribed by a veterinarian for pets with special care needs.

Nail Clippers

Keeping your pet’s nails trimmed is important for their health and comfort. There are three main types on the market. Which you choose is really a matter of preference.

Claw-style trimmers are used to cut nails with a scissor-like fashion.

Scissor-like trimmers are used for smaller breeds with delicate nails.

Filing tools grind the nails to provide a nice smooth edge.

Many pet owners use a Dremel to file down their pet’s nails. This tool makes short work of the nail, and is said to be more comfortable for the pet. You just need to be careful with it, as it can easily go too far if you aren’t paying attention.

One more useful item is a hair dryer. If your pet is a larger breed, you are better off buying a specialized animal hair dryer. The amount and thickness of the coat could burn out your regular hair dryer. You should be able to use your regular hair dryer on smaller breeds without any difficulty. In a pinch, a towel will do the job, but the undercoat will have to air-dry before you can cut it.

Learning the basics of home dog grooming isn’t as hard as you think, as long as you have the right tools. It will bring you closer to your pet, and save you some money in the process.

Dog walking is a great way to get fit and share time with your pet dog, providing it is fun and easy. But, who’s walking who? If your dog is walking you, then take action to rectify the situation. It’s never too late, no matter what age your dog is, although puppy training is the ideal starting time.

Dog training can be frustrating, but it doesn’t have to be! You don’t have to become a dog obedience expert to train your dog. Most pet owners do not have the time or desire to become dog trainers, nor do they need to have a highly trained pet.

By following a few simple suggestions you can have a happy, well behaved, leash trained dog that can be taken anywhere by anyone.

FIRSTLY; you must be the Pack Leader and set clear expectations in your own mind, and then be consistent. Be fair and realistic in the beginning with what it is you expect, your dog needs to learn. Learning must be a positive building block process.

Now you have the right mindset 90% of your training job is done, the rest is easy, your dog will pick up on the new you and adjust accordingly. Sure, there might be some resistance at first but, providing you stick it out your dog will find comfort in the boundaries you’ve established – it’s like they can read your mind. If you come from a place of passive persistence, with a kind but assertive attitude you’ll win the game and their trust.

SECONDLY; you need an effective walking and training device.

No training tool is a solution on its own; without you firstly having the right mindset and the willingness to help your dog to learn, no tool will work.

There is no place for any training device that causes pain or potential damage to your dog, no justification or need, ever, for the use of such tools. I can personally assure you of this, from years of careful observation and experience. Use your good judgment and commonsense when making the choice of a training or walking device, your dog is relying on you.

There are basically two categories of walking – training aids available:-

**Head & Neck Area Products – these include devices such as collars and leads, choker chains, muzzle harness, etc. These devices rely on trying to control the dog by using the sensitive and vulnerable neck area, where vital structures such as the airway and spinal cord are interfered with.

They claim to use the principle of comfort vs discomfort however; there is a fine line here, it is more like the outdated method of ‘train by pain’. As with any training tool, used properly by experienced trainers they can be effective however, in my opinion they are definitely not for the average dog owner or child to use, they can and do cause pain and distress. Just look around, you don’t have to go far to see gagging dogs at the end of choker chains and leads, dragging their handlers all over the place.

**Body Harness Products – of which there are two main types, a Fixed Position Body Harness or a Slip Action Body Harness.

The least harmful of all the dog walking products is probably the Fixed Position Body Harness however; this style of harness does not provide any real avenue of training or communication. The dog can use his weight, without any discomfort, to pull against you. This style is only suitable for small breeds, quiet, older or trained dogs.

In my opinion, the most effective and kindest of all the training devices we have tested is the other type of body harness; the Slip Action style, which works on the principle of ‘give and take’, the same as the choker chain but, of course, without the risk of causing damage to sensitive vital structures.

Of the Slip Action style body harnesses there are currently two types I know of, both are good communication and control devices however, one is made using cord, which can be quite severe and cause pain and bruising to soft tissue areas.

The other type of Slip Action harness available is made of soft, flat nylon webbing which doesn’t cause pain or damage, no matter how inexperienced the handler is or how much the dog might pull against it – it is safe for the dog in any hands, as well as providing an excellent degree of control for the handler at the same time. It also converts easily, from a Slip Action training and control harness to a Fixed Position body harness, so it is actually a combination of both styles of harness in one.

Pet exercise is very important. Your dog needs a space in which to romp. With exercise pens, your dog has the opportunity to romp around without having the chance to escape and run amuck in the neighbor’s flowerbed.

Exercise Pens-What Are They?
These pens, also known as Dog Pens, are fences that allow your dog a safe place for your dog to exercise and play. Portable exercise pens are available. These consist of portable fencing made of heavy gauge wire formed into eight hinged panels. The hinges make the exercise pen easy to put away or transport.

Dog pens come in sizes ranging from 24 to 48 inches in height, and are typically 16 feet in length. Exercise pens are also available with soft sides constructed of canvas and mesh. These weigh less and are more portable, but if your dog is rambunctious or tends to chew they are far mare easily destroyed than the metal dog pens.

Exercise pens can be used indoors or outdoors. Dogs are territorial, and so will be quite comfortable with the notion that the pen is their area. The hinges allow you to configure exercise pens into just about any size and shape you choose. You can also use it as a gate or barrier if you want to keep your dog in a particular part of a fenced-in yard, or keep the dog in the house or garage.

Exercise Pens and Training
One of the best ways to encourage and maintain your dog’s good behavior is to manage his or her environment. These pens are good tools for doing this. You can create a comfortable and familiar environment for your dog when you are not there to watch over and train him or her, or just cannot devote your full attention to your dog.

Travel and Portability
Dogs can be great fun to travel with, if you are well prepared. Taking a dog pen along with you on your trip will give your dog a secure place to relax no matter where you are, without having to tie your dog up all the time. Dogs prefer exercise pens to being tied up.

Dogs are easily unsettled by unfamiliar surroundings. This can cause the dog to behave inappropriately. For example, the dog may be tempted to urinate on furniture or decorative items, or chew on furniture and fixtures-particularly awkward if you’re staying at someone else’s house. Spacious pens with a familiar soft blanket and chewable toys can be a welcome place to rest for your dog. Knowing your dog is relaxing will ease your mind as well.

Housetraining Applications
Exercise pens can be tremendously useful in housebreaking your dog. It will allow you to use a box or piddle pad, or keep your dog in a limited space until you can take him or her outside. If the dog perceives the space as his own, he may be less inclined to soil it. You will, however, need to remember to take your dog outside frequently to do his business.

Other Uses for Exercise Pens
Pens are used at dog shows to keep the participants safe, happy and separate from each other until it is their turn to tour the ring. They are also used to keep your dog confined to a limited area of your house or yard after your dog has returned home from surgery. A dog that has been recently operated on should not be allowed to roam free, but rather must remain where you can closely observe him.

Other Considerations
While your dog’s pen is useful for keeping your dog at select times, they are not intended to be a place where the dog can stay indefinitely. In spite of the name you’ll want to take your dog out of the pen and let him get some real exercise.

You can acclimate your dog to the pen the same way you would to a crate: feed him in the pen, do not leave him alone in the pen until he’s used to it. Don’t leave his collar on when he’s in the pen, for his own safety.

But for those people that are trying to choose all-natural and organic products when possible, you may be surprised to know that you can have an organic dog bed as well. If you are interested in all-natural and organic materials, then a latex dog bed might be what you are looking for.

Latex is made from all-natural rubber from the rubber tree, making an all-natural latex foam rubber. This foam rubber is much heavier and denser than typical foam beds, adding extra comfort and support. The denser material is up to three times the weight of plastic based polyurethane foams and has less air, making it hold its shape longer than a typical cushion or other foam pad.

Latex is a very healthy material and serves as an excellent source of comfort and durability. It is naturally antimicrobial and hypo-allergenic. Additionally, latex foam prevents development of bacteria and other foreign dirt. Although you wouldn’t need as much maintenance with a latex bed, it is one of the only truly washable foam materials, making the care of your dog bed even easier.

A latex dog bed will stand up to every element outdoor or not. Many beds if made with cheap materials will develop mildew. Natural latex beds also repel dust mites, making this material perhaps the healthiest option available for your dog.

Durability is another great quality in natural latex dog beds. Although it is completely biodegradable, it can last as a bed for up to 30 years before it starts to wear out, making this the only bed you may ever need to buy for your dog.

As we all know, comfort and support are very important elements when looking for dog beds. Your dog’s bed will be something that he or she uses everyday and depends on for comfort and even a sense of security. All-natural latex beds are much more comfortable than a typical dog bed as the material actually has memory and will conform to the shape of your dog. And if comfort, support, durability and natural material weren’t enough, latex foam rubber has a luxurious feel to it, so you don’t have to compromise anything – your dog can have it all.

Searching for a durable, mildew free, outdoor, long lasting solution then an all natural latex foam rubber dog bed is for you. Your dog will thank you.

Dog Cages don’t have to be boring anymore. There are many new types of dog cages available to suit every one’s needs. These new designer cages add interest to the home while providing your pet with the same security and comfort as traditional metal crates.

Dogs love to feel accepted into your home and sometimes the best way to make your new dog feel comfortable is to provide a place for the dog to go where it can feel secure. You may also need to confine your dog to the cage when you leave your home or when you go to bed. The good news is that now there are many new styles of crate to choose from. Wicker crates provide a moderately priced alternative to traditional barred crates. Wooden dog house crates are available for all sizes of dog. Decorative iron styled crates adds character to the room they are in while still providing the function they are intended to. All of the stylish dog crates still come with the same easy setup and portability as the old styles.

How to use a crate to train your dog.

It is important to provide your dog with only enough room to turn around when training your dog. You may need to place a piece of cardboard in the crate to make it smaller.

Take your dog for a walk immediately after you let it out of its cage. That way you won’t have any accidents in the house.

Try not to use the crate as a punishment for your dogs behavior. Dogs can learn to love their crate for comfort and security.

Why would you need a dog car ramp?

Has your dog just had surgery, making it difficult for him to go faster than a walk?

Is your big dog having trouble jumping up into your car, SUV or truck?

Do you need a way for your dog to get into your boat from the dock?

Are you worn out from lifting your dog in and out of your car or boat?

Are you worried you’ll end up injuring yourself?

If you answered yes to any of the above, consider buying or building a ramp. Dog ramps for cars or boats offer a simple solution. Eliminate the guilt and anxiety caused by having to leave your dog at home. With the help of a car dog ramp, you can always bring the dog with you if you choose to!

The most lifting you have to do will be the ramp. A dog car ramp or dog boat ramp is designed to weigh as little as possible, usually 30 lbs or less.

Besides the weight of the ramp, there are three other things to be concerned about:

Will it create a gentle enough slope for my dog?

Will it fit in my car or boat?

How can I afford it?

What Length Ramp Should I Get?

Some dog car ramps are made out of one piece of board or metal 4 to 5 feet long. These shorter ramps can be used for side entry into a vehicle, where the height from the ground is not that great. This type of ramp may be difficult to store in some vehicles and may be best suited for short trips where your dog does not get out of the car. You can leave the ramp at home close to your driveway or in your garage.

Many dog ramps for cars or boats are around 70 inches long or almost 6 feet long, creating a reasonable slope for most dogs to negotiate. If your dog has a lot of difficulty with walking, there are a few extra long ramps that are 7 feet or 84 inches long. These ramps fold up (see below) to make them easy to carry and stow.

Will It Fit In My Vehicle Or Boat?

All the longer ramps are designed to fold up or slide inward (telescope) to at least half their length. That means the folded length is between 35 and 42 inches, which allows these types of ramps to fit in most vehicles or boats. They ramps are fully portable, therefore suitable for longer trips where your dog needs to get in and out away from home. There is also one called a tri-fold that has two folds.

Can I Afford It?

Commercial dog car ramps for bigger dogs tend to cost around USD 100 or more at this time, whether you buy them in a pet store or online. Shipping costs are usually at least USD 25, so even if the ramp costs USD 70, the total is still at least $95.

There is a more affordable option, if you or someone you know has basic woodworking skills. You can build your own! See below for a link to a set of inexpensive folding dog ramp plans.

If you are good at finding recycled or scrap materials, the only thing you may need to buy are the hinges! Many lumber and hardware stores have scrapped wood bins where you can get free plywood and lumber pieces. Often someone buys a sheet of ply board or length of lumber and asks a store clerk to cut it for them. If they do not want the remaining pieces, they are placed in the free bin.

Whatever type of dog car ramp you choose, it is bound to be worth your investment by giving you peace of mind about your dog and your health!

A fur coat helps keep the cold out, but sometimes it’s not enough for your dog, particularly if he/she is older, has arthritis, or is recovering from illness or surgery. Whether your dog has short or long hair, cold winter nights-and days-can chill him. A Heated Dog Bed may be the answer to help your dog stay warm and cozy even in the dead of winter.

There are many heated dog beds available on the web and in stores. Some are better than others. The most important factor is safety. If you are in the market for one, here is what to look for:

The heated dog bed should be UL and CUL certified to ensure safety and ideally have a steel-wrapped cord in case your dog is a chewer.

Dual thermostats are preferable to automatically ensure consistent temperature; 102 degrees is an optimal temperature for dogs. Look for a heated bed that provides a full-range, variable heat control. This allows you to adjust the heat from off to full temperature heat quickly and easily.

The best heated beds have a heater that keeps the surface temperature of the bed about 12 to 15 degrees above ambient air temperature. When your dog lies on the bed, the temperature warms to a cozy 102°. Because the heater from the warmer insert only warms up when your dog is on the bed, it doesn’t waste a lot of energy. Depending on the size of the bed, most heated beds use 6-13 watts.

Look for a bed with a removable heater insert so you can wash the bed and use it year-round without the heat.

Read the product information carefully. Some heated beds are designed for indoor use only, while other beds, such as heated kennel mats, are suitable for outside use.

Heated dog beds come in a variety of styles. They include orthopedic heated beds with thick orthopedic foam to cushion joints and reduce pressure points; pillow-style beds with a heater inside; igloo style half-rounded heated pads to fit in igloo dog houses; heated, oval beds for small and toy-breed dogs; and heated kennel mats for use outside.

Another option is a thermo-wave microwavable dog bed warmer. You just heat the warmer in your microwave and put it into your dog’s bed. It becomes soft and pliable when warmed. Good ones will have two sides for adjustable warmth, will be made out of non-toxic material, and stay warm for up to 12 hours.

Never use a human heating pad for your dog. They are designed to be placed on top the body and not for being laid upon. Heating pads for humans get much hotter than a dog’s body temperature and may cause injury.

Dog training is definitely not rocket science and is easier than you would expect particularly if you can get help from a good dog training book or guide. It’s also certainly possible for almost any dog owners to train their dogs themselves provided they put in adequate amount of effort.

Nevertheless, you might still want to get additional help from a professional trainer, especially if you got a tough nut to crack in your hand. Before you engage a trainer, it’s always best that you do some research first as there are many trainers with different teaching styles and not every style suit every dog or owner.

Here’s a guide for you to find a reliable trainer:

Ask someone

It wouldn’t hurt you to open your mouth to ask someone for advice or recommendation.

- Ask your friends, even strangers you meet in the park for the contacts of their trainer if you notice that he owns a particular well-train dog. Even if they don’t engage a trainer, you could still possibly pick up some valuable training tips. You’ve got nothing to lose and I’ll bet the owner would also most probably be flattered.

- Ask your veterinarian for recommendations. He deal with dogs everyday and must have seen the best and worse dog. He should have contacts for some good trainers in your area.

- Ask the local Humane Society, dog breeder or even your pet supplies shop owner. They are also a good source of information and might just be able to direct you to a trainer who is particularly suited to training your dog breed.

- You can also check out The Association of Pet Dog Trainers (APDT) Trainer Directory:
=> http://www.apdt.com/trainers-and-owners/trainer-search/trainer-search.php

The directory has a search engine that allows you to search trainer by specific geographical location and also list out if trainers are Certified Pet Dog Trainer (CPDT) to help you make your decision.

*CPDT is certified by the Certification Council for Pet Dog Trainers an international testing and certification program for professional pet dog trainers. It is basically to ensure that the trainer has a certain level of knowledge and expertise. To be certified, trainers must have at least 300 hours of dog training experience and have passed an exam that assesses basic knowledge of canine training. For more details, visit http://www.ccpdt.org/

There are several things to look out for before you engage a trainer. You might want to consider these factors first before you engage one from a list of good contacts you got. The Trainer must have the following traits:

- must be humane and gentle with the dogs during training.

- must be an effective communicator and teacher. Both you and your dog must be able to understand his teaching for effective training. In short, “Do you understand the words that are coming out of his mouth?” As dog training involve both you and your dog, you must also be able to understand his teachings so that you can practice them when you get home.

- must be experience and up-to-date with the latest training methods. You might want to request a sit-in session to observe him and see if he can deal with the particularly difficult dogs. Don’t be afraid to ask him questions about his training background, training techniques, methods and etc. An experience trainer should have no problem answering your questions.

Distance - This might not be a big factor but certainly one worth considering. Imagine a 4 hours drive for every training session!

Hope these tips are useful to help you look for a good dog trainer.

Good luck in your quest for a good trainer!

Arthritis in dogs is more common than one may think. It is one of the most common health problems seen by veterinarians. Unfortunately, dogs that suffer arthritis are unable to tell us about it.

Arthritis in dogs is quite common in older dogs, and it is more noticeable in the larger dogs than in the smaller ones. That does not mean smaller dogs do not suffer joint problems, it is just more pronounced in the larger breeds. The larger dogs have greater difficulty moving around than the smaller ones when affected by arthritis. It is important for dog owners to be observant of their dog’s behavior and recognize the symptoms when their pet is ailing.

Your dog may have arthritis if you notice:

Your dog is favoring a limb

Your dog has difficulty sitting down, getting up or standing

Your dog sleep more than usual. Animals reduce their metabolic rate to reduce pain.

Your dog appears to have stiff or sore joints and difficulty in walking.

Your dog doesn’t want to jump, run or climb stairs anymore

Your dog is gaining weight due to less exercise

Your dog is less active or less interested in play

Unfortunately the early warning signs of arthritis in dogs are rarely noticed by dog owners and veterinarians because animals have the tendency to ignore the discomfort until the arthritis affects the joints significantly. Arthritis in dogs can be very difficult to diagnose since the dog may not limp or appear to be in pain. Arthritis causes swelling in the joints and movement becomes restricted.

Joints have a susceptibility to any number of diseases, including arthritis. Any damage to a joint may produce arthritis. It can occur in any joint but is seen most often in the hip, elbow, knee and stifle.

It is important for your dog to rest comfortably on a bed that will help to ease the discomfort. Heated Dog Beds are great for dogs with arthritis or older dogs suffering from other aches. There are few better methods of letting your dog sleep off the pain than with one of these beds. Heated dog beds are equipped with built-in thermostats which allow you to control the temperature and create a snug warm place for your dog to sleep. Many have built-in thermometers that automatically adjust the warmth according to your dog’s temperature and the ambient air temperature to provide heat when needed.

I have been using heated dog beds for years for each of my dogs as they have grown older and are terrific for dogs recovering from sickness or injury. Most dogs enjoy cuddling deep into their heated beds when the weather is terrible and the nights are cold. Heated dog beds are a great idea during the winter months.

Heated dog beds have been specially designed to deal with dog’s nails and claws and are very durable.

Contrary to the belief of many people, not all dogs like to be outside and certainly no dog likes to be cold. They suffer from the cold just as we do and suffer arthritis just as we do. Do your dog a favor and ease their joints with warm and comfortable sleeping conditions. I recommend using a heated dog bed.

At last there is no need to worry when your dog wanders off. Thanks to latest digital and satellite technologies, there is a way to track your dog and prevent all those wasted hours looking around the neighborhood for him.

So how does it work? If you live in an area covered by the Global Positioning System (GPS), the satellite antennae fixed to the collar, or backpack, constantly finds signals emitted from at least four satellites. It is much like receiving signals on your cell phone network. GPS positioning can be accurate to within 15 meters.

If your dog goes missing, simply call the mobile phone number of the GPS Dog Collar from your own cell phone. The GPS receiver in the collar works out the position of your dog and sends the coordinates immediately as a SMS (Short Message Service). This is done through the Global System for Mobile Communication (GSM) network and the coordinates are then displayed on your mobile phone screen. Some GPS collars can be configured to work with the Internet and the dog’s location can be tracked from specialized websites.

GPS dog collars are waterproof, contain rechargeable batteries and are light weight as well (approximately 200 g). Now each time you put on your pet’s collar, you know that he will be found, especially useful if he has been injured and is lying somewhere undetected. Go ahead and try a GPS dog collar – imagine being free from the worry and hassle of losing your pet.

Pet Obesity is a growing concern according to a report which ranks the healthiest U.S. cities for cats and dogs based on 30 criteria, including weight, preventative care, air quality and pet-friendly legislation. As in humans, pet obesity is dangerous and unhealthy. It can lead to liver disease, heart disease, kidney disease, diabetes, joint, and even back problems. People who love their pets dearly don’t realize that they could be actually slowly killing their pets by overfeeding them.

The biggest contributor to pet obesity is overeating. Most pets will eat whatever is put before them because it is their natural instinct. For example, dogs are natural scavengers that think every meal could be their last so they eat whenever food is offered to them. Many times dogs will eat even if they are not hungry because of this natural instinct. That is why it is important to feed your animals perfectly portioned meals which many automatic pet feeders can do for your animals.

Many pet owners will turn to more expensive options like special foods or even pills. The two biggest things that someone can do for their pet is get an Automatic Pet Feeder so they can eat perfectly portioned timed meals, and also make their animal gets plenty of exercise. Those two things will help reduce weight for a pet, and they are less expensive than other alternatives.

Pet feeders generally range from $39.99 to $125.99 depending on the kind of feeder you need for your pets. There are feeders for cats and small dogs and also feeders for larger dogs. The important thing to look for with an automatic pet feeder is whether or not it has an electronic timer that will automatically provide food to your animals at a specified time each day. The goal is that no matter how busy your schedule is, your cat or dog will eat at the same time every single day. Some automatic pet feeders will provide 5 meals, others provide 6, and others provide up to 8 meals. With an 8 meal automatic pet feeder you can choose to feed your animals twice daily over a four day span for instance. Each time the food is released it will only release the exact amount each time.

Pet feeders provide multiple benefits including helping to combat pet obesity, giving pet owners a peace of mind that their pet is being fed at the right time even if they are running late, and they also are excellent for use while owners are away for a few days on vacation. It is highly recommended and encouraged that while pet owners are away that they still plan for someone to visit their animals while they are gone to check up on them and make sure everything is going well.

Pet obesity could end up killing your pets, so it is extremely important that you take action, and an automatic pet feeder allows you to take that action without breaking the bank.
